An Attitude of Gratitude

by Dr. Regina Campbell

attitude of gratitude“Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer” Maya Angelou

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Maya Angelou wanted one to truly understand the importance of having a grateful heart and an attitude of gratitude. Too many people have lost this vital expression and mindset. Today the world has become a place of entitlement and gratitude seems be a lost art. Life may not be what you wished it too be but it’s not always as bad as you think. Every day find a way to be grateful. Look closely around your life and be thankful for the many blessings that has been bestowed upon you. No it’s not about materialism but having reasonable health, family, friends, and God’s love. Over the next month focus on being thankful and you’ll find that you will start to have an inner peace and joy.

To be thankful is to embrace where you are in life regardless of what you have encountered. You may be divorced, lost a loved one, challenged with your health, or seeking employment these are examples of what you may experience. Despite what you have or will experience you must intentionally find the good in every situation and possess an attitude of gratitude. You must refuse to fall in the trap of measuring life’s happiness upon what you have but focus your attention on being grateful and giving thanks. You must have a mindset regardless of the cards you are dealt learn to accept the situation and find a reason to be grateful. An attitude of gratitude is the key to not allow life to overtake you but you possessing a spirit of an overcomer. No matter what comes your way you must vow to be grateful for the good that will come out of the situation.

Finally learn to tell others thank you; as you interact with others don’t forget to say thank you. Telling someone thank you is saying how much you appreciate that person. Possessing an attitude of gratitude strengthens your relationships. Thus as you celebrate Thanksgiving take time before you partake your meal and dine with love ones and friends; first thank God for his immense blessings towards you and your family. Thank God for friends, life and health. Most of all thanks God for who He is.
