Choose Love

by Dr. Regina Campbell

“The only way love can last a lifetime is if it’s unconditional. The truth is this: love is not determined by the one being loved but rather by the one choosing to love.” Stephen Kendrick

Ephesians 4:2
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

Today we live in a world full of hate and discourse. Everywhere you turn it seems like there is discourse, anger and dissension. If you were to ask why, many could not tell you the central reason of their discourse. However on the contrary biblical principles teach us to love. God’s love for humankind is exhibited throughout the more than four hundred scriptures that elude to love. Love is the central aspect of humankind. Agape love is to love unconditionally. Unconditionally love which teaches us to love without judgement and condemnation. We must learn to love people where they are and refrain from casting judgment their short comings or idiosyncrasies. Choose to love those in your life with their idiosyncrasies for love is a gift from God to be expressed and experienced by all.

As you embark upon this New Year don’t hesitate or be reluctant to set goals that you’ve set before. You have set goals over the years hoping for what you’ve set would come true. Hope is an expected end. It is a goal that you seek to achieve. To lose hope is to give up on what you expected to achieve. The question becomes what elements cause a person to give up on their goal or dream. The element of time can cause you to give up on your dream. It is when we have to wait years for the expected end. No matter how long it takes keep hoping and believing that you will achieve your expected end. Time is the opportunity to continue hard work and exercise discipline to achieve the expected end. Another element that causes you to give up hope is unpredictable changes in occurrences. For example when you were expected to receive a small business loan but the bank denied you the loan or maybe personal matters with a family member. For example maybe you had to quit college to take care of an ill parent. Third is the element of unbelief in your ability and skills. Many times you believe in another’s dream except your own. It is good to encourage and support others’ dreams but believe that God has equipped you with the gifts, skills and abilities to achieve your expected end. The fourth element is excuses. Too many times you provide excuses such as what you are currently facing, what you’ve encountered or what obstacles may be in your way. There are no excuses that is greater than God’s sovereign ability to aid you to achieve your expected end. Finally giving up on your dream and goal is losing hope. I know it is easier said than done but know that your faith has nothing to draw from if you lose hope. Living without hope is like living without oxygen as oxygen provides life. Likewise having hope in your dreams provides a reason to strive and live for. Pursuing your expected end is your oxygen to keep going thus do not lose your Hope!
