“An unexamined life is not worth living”
Do you wonder why you do what you do and why you think the way you think, or why you react a certain way in situations and why you feel what you feel? Then, I challenge you to get to know yourself. To know you is to know your tendencies and proclivities. What are your likes and dislikes? The question becomes why should you get to know yourself? The importance of self-knowledge is for the purpose of making decisions based upon your convictions and who you are. If you are willing to get to know you then you will always be a person of strength and tenacity.
Self-knowledge can position you for high self-esteem and self-worth. You can become comfortable with you and not be consumed with copying others. You can learn to love and accept yourself. Learning to accept your true essence is the first step in possessing high self-esteem. You must first love you before you can love others. To love others is to know that you are of great value and importance in your own right. You can be assured that your gifts, skills and talents make up who you are.
The most important reason to know you is for you to fulfill your life’s purpose. How do you know what your purpose is if you don’t know you. How do you maximize your potential if you are not in touch with your innate abilities? You are not capable of fulfilling your goals and dreams without a purpose
Ways to get to know yourself:
- Self-examination – “Unexamined life is not worth living.” You must learn to objectively, honestly and candidly examine yourself and look within to examine your motives, heart, mind, actions, and thinking in every situation.
- Know your triggers – What makes you respond in situations? Why do you react in matters? These are the questions you must answer in examining your behavior. You have to know what makes you upset and how you respond.
- Get feedback from a trusted source – mentor, friend, and/or family member.
