Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMP)
“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.” Melody Beattie
As you embark upon a New Year before you set any personal goals to accomplish think about your spiritual formation. Where are you? How committed are you to your spiritual growth and development? Many are setting goals for the New Year but they neglect to examine where they are spiritually. Many are setting new goals regarding how they desire to better themselves and their lives. I offer you the thought of setting a goal of achieving “A New You”! A New You from the perspective of your spiritual growth and development to where you strengthen your faith and deepen your commitment to God. I believe it is appropriate and important to set new goals for a New Year. Yet when goals are grounded and rooted in a new spiritual dimension then those goals will become more fulfilling and joyous. It’s your spiritual depth-ness that determines the level of your natural growth. To grow in your spiritual formation and commitment is imperative for “A New You” to prevail. It is your spiritual growth from within that must grow to another level. It’s becoming more involved in your local assembly or church and growing in a way where your internal life reaches the next level of spiritual maturity such as in the area of your mindset and behavior. Taking your spiritual walk with God more seriously not just having a haphazard relationship where you only pray when things are not going well in your life. It is having an intimate and personal relationship with God despite where you are in life or what you are experiencing.
In addition God desires that you spend time daily in meditation and prayer as this will strengthen your faith and relationship with God. God truly desires for you to accomplish all that you set out to accomplish however anything accomplished outside the will of God or out of the arch of God’s care is an exercise in futility and you will not have the inner Peace of God. According to scripture Matthew 16:26 “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world [wealth, fame, success], but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (AMP) This verse informs us that you can achieve the highest goal in your career, education or life itself but if your soul in all of this is lost or if you have forfeited the edification of your spiritually (soul) then it’s not truly gain!!!!
Thus as you embark upon this new and exciting New Year set a goal of reaching a new level in your spiritual growth and development then you can truly achieve your life’s purpose and potential. Here’s to a “New You”!!!!
