“Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.” Rudyard Kipling
James 3:6 (NIV)-The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire…
Proverbs 18:21 (AMP)-Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.
The tongue is one of the smallest parts of our body but it is the most powerful. With the tongue we can truly hurt and damage others with our words. When we say certain words that hurt others it can go into the inner most parts of one’s heart and soul. There are times that words can be more painful than physical pain inflicted upon a person. Physical pain heals easier and quicker but words that hurt negativity impact a person inner being which is one’s emotions and that is very difficult to heal from. It appears that hurtful words have a lasting negative imprint in a person’s mind as well. According to scripture life and death are in the power of a person’s tongue. Death here refers to how words can kill and destroy a person. For example I observed a person speaking to another person making statements on how that person would never be in anything in life…that person went on to say “you don’t have what it takes to learn or obtain a higher education.” Unfortunately that person on the receiving end of those words experienced the power of words that killed that person’s ability to believe in their dream of obtaining a higher education degree.
On the other hand when we speak words of encouragement we are speaking life and possibility into the lives of others. We must learn to love people in such a way that we value their lives to speak words that bring life and hope. Words that lift people up not bringing them down…words that see the best in others not focus on their shortcomings…words that help not hinder…these are words of life!!!
In addition when you are feeling discouragement about a matter this is not the time to respond with an email or text message as it will be full of discouragement and negativity. On the contrary give yourself time to think and re-channel your negative energy into positive energy so you can speak factual coupled with positivity. I am not saying that there are times we need to misrepresent truth what I am saying is speak the truth with love and compassion. The scripture informs us that a soft answer turns away wrath and anger. Finally be careful what you say and how you say things. It has often been stated it’s not what you say but how you say it.
